Why I Create
At peddl, we know putting your work into the world is a vulnerable thing. It’s not just an item. It’s a story. It's part of you!
I didn’t start out thinking I’d build a marketplace.
I started out the way so many makers do — with a spark. A single idea. A feeling in my chest that whispered, “You could make something useful and important… you should make something that helps people.”
For me, it began sitting in my car after another day at a job I “liked” — something steady, something survivable, but not something that made my heart sing. It wasn’t (isn't) my passion. It wasn’t the thing I could imagine doing for the rest of my life. So, I asked myself: What should I be doing instead?
And because I’m a tech-minded person, I did what many of us do these days: I asked AI the question directly.
“What should I be doing?”
After a few simple questions, a pattern emerged. I wanted to help people — people like me. But how? What’re my passions? Creating. Technology. Helping makers. But my creativity was scattered… some painting here, some resin there. Nothing about it looked like a business. It barely looked like a hobby. I’d tried craft shows: lots of effort, very few sales. I’d tried online markets: too many fees, too much money out, too little coming back in.
And the truth was… the money wasn’t really the point.
My goal was to help artists and crafters like me discover a place where they didn’t have to struggle to get their creations in front of the right people.
It seemed so easy — and yet so difficult.
But still, it felt like possibility.
And that’s all a maker really needs.
I made things because it helped me breathe. Because it brought me joy. Because the world felt a little softer when my hands were busy shaping something new. I talked with a friend of mine who is a programmer. To my surprise, he didn’t laugh at the idea. Soon, we spent late nights learning, experimenting, failing, trying again, and shaping the thought that would become peddl.
But then came the harder part — sharing it.
Putting your work into the world is a vulnerable thing. It’s not just an item. It’s a story. It's part of you! And when you’re a maker, you learn quickly that selling isn’t just about the thing you made. It’s about trust, connection, and finding people who genuinely appreciate what you do.
I dreamed of a space that understood that — a place built not around cutthroat competition, but around caring, supporting, and helping creators shine. A place where makers weren’t just another listing — they were the heartbeat of a whole community.
So… we built it.
peddl was born from that tiny spark, from that whisper of possibility, from the belief that creators deserve a home that protects them, celebrates them, and lifts them up.
peddl isn’t just a marketplace.
It’s a community.
It’s a promise.
It’s a reminder that your creative work matters — deeply, truly, beautifully.
That’s my story… what’s yours?
